Uses For This Activity

I designed this annotation activity as a strategy for introducing the term "stream of consciousness." I think reading sections from Virginia Woolf, James Joyce, or Edgar Allen Poe can be daunting for most secondary students, but if they understand the cornerstone of this style of writing (memory, sensory experience), the reading may not appear as intimidating. I think this activity also highlights how Tovani's strategies can be adapted to whatever lesson you're teaching. I encourage all teachers to read her books simply so they can be better prepared for improving students' comprehension.
